CPU is still Intel's most important product in the future, but which products are Intel's second most important? The official response from Intel is somewhat unexpected.
Speaking at Citibank's global technology conference a few days ago, Jason Grebe, vice president of cloud computing at Intel, answered the second most important question for Intel after Xeon. His answer was "GPU," which means that GPU graphics cards are second only to CPU in Intel's mind.
As for why, the reason is simple, Jason Grebe believes that GPU is more widely used than professional accelerator products.
Intel is now the world's largest GPU vendor, but this is nuclear display, and Jason Grebe's answer is clearly not nuclear GPU, but high-performance GPU, a new generation of GPU products represented by Xe architecture.
According to Intel's plan, the company will release its first unique GPU, based on 10nm process in 2020, starting mainly with game GPU manufacturers, while in 2021, high-performance GPU, with 7nm process will be mainly used in data centers. It can also be seen from the initial 7nm process that Intel attaches importance to it.
