In short, it's not surprising that iPhone users hold devices longer than ever before. Although some iPhone users regularly upgrade to a new device every two years, this year's update cycle seems to extend to more than three years. This dynamic can be attributed to many factors, including the cancellation of subsidies by operators, rising prices and the simple fact that the iPhone is more durable than ever.
For the latter point, Wallethub's survey found that many users only buy new devices after their current device is broken. In other words, the era of pushing for upgrades due to new features seems to be a thing of the past, although the 2020 iPhone 5G may change that.
So what are the motivations for iPhone users to upgrade now? the Wallethub survey found that:
Wait until my present.cellphoneBad: 57%
Wait until the price is good: 30%
Wait until there are a lot of activities about new phones: 7%
Wait until the next iPhone drops: 6%
Interestingly, 94% of respondents said the price of new smartphones might be too high. As a result, 47 per cent of respondents said the price of new smartphones prevented them from upgrading. At the same time, 38 percent of respondents said the next phone they bought would depend on the price.
As for the upcoming iPhone 11 series, appleThree new models are expected to be released as successors to last year's iPhone XR,XS and XS Max. All devices will have improved hardware, iPhone XS Max succession models may be equipped with three rear cameras.
