In California,Selling genetic editing tools without warning labels will be illegal. California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill to regulate DIY CRISPR genetic editing tools on July 30, and such human DNA editing tools for amateurs do not currently exist.
The bill will take effect in January next year. This is the first law in the United States to regulate CRISPR, proposed by Senator Ling Ling Chang. The law is considered to be a bio-hacker Josiah Zayner and his company The Odin, which sells genetic engineering tools online. But the tools that Zayner sells can only be used to edit microbial genes and are not effective for humans. Zayner thinks that the California law is meaningless, as if skateboarding needs to be labeled with a label that cannot be used on the road.
