XDA-Developers has completed the Android porting of the Nintendo Switch host, which is based on the Android 8.1 Oreo LineageOS 15.1 system and is very compatible with the Nvidia Shield TV product line. For further optimization, XDA Senior Member langer hans teamed up with junior member bylaws to pre-install TWRP, tune and provide a CPU/GPU performance profile.

Interested friends can easily launch LineageOS 15.1 from the SD card from now on. Any Switch model that was released before the summer of 2018 can theoretically be cracked to run the system.

If you want to double check before you start, you can refer to the guide provided by XDA (Portal) to determine if your switch is already patched with a hard-to-crack Android mobile operating system.

As XDA points out, Switch portage version 15.1 basically retains the original Android functionality, supports Google services, and sets up native Nvidia Shield applications.

It's worth noting that the Joy-Cons handle and Switch Pro controller still work perfectly. If you are on the cradle, you can also use the keyboard and mouse. The following are additional details given by XDA:

  • Porting LineageOS 15.1 - based on Android 8.1 Oreo (Nvidia Shield TV branch) transformation;
  • Pre-installed TWRP and CPU / GPU performance profiles;
  • Support handheld and docking mode, audio can also be used normally;
  • Support handheld (handheld mode), or Bluetooth connection using Joy-Con handle.

It should be noted that in order to use Android on the Switch, you need to write an image file with matching size on the SD card. This will erase the original data on the memory card, so make the necessary backups.

Finally, the list of incompatibilities between Switch and LineageOS 15.1:

  • Deep sleep support is poor, relatively expensive;
  • The problem of automatic rotation needs to be optimized, and the screen will be turned off when hooked to the base;
  • The system does not seem to detect charging, but the external power supply has been turned on;
  • Some apps do not correctly recognize the input of the Joy-Con handle;
  • The touch screen may be too sensitive, and even if the finger is hovering on the screen, it may cause a false impression.

Fortunately, the way SD launches the Android image does not have any impact on the native system of the machine.
