According to the patent description, the device containing the directional actuator can control the function of the device according to the direction. The first function provided by this technology is about the first direction of the computer equipment, and the specified function of the directional actuator of the corresponding computer equipment. The orientation sensor of the device provides a second function when it is in active state.
In some implementation cases, different functions used to control the device can be accessed through different operation directions such as closing and opening of the device. Microsoft mentioned in the patent document that "when the device is in a closed direction (e.g., folded together), the directional specific actuator (e.g., buttons) that engages the device can achieve the first functional range. However, when the direction of the device changes, the functions accessible to the specific actuator in the same direction can also be changed. For example, when the device is in the open direction, a second different range of functions can be achieved by joining the same directional specific actuator. Therefore, the concept of directed specific control can provide increased flexibility and/or simplified user experience for components of the device.
