This patent relates to a capsule of a stylus that is sized and shaped to fit within the outer casing of the stylus. The new patent, called "STYLUS CAPSULE", was submitted by Microsoft in January 2018 and published by the US Patent Office on July 11, 2019. The capsule is made of a plastic material and has a cylindrical housing with a tapered tip. The capsule has a stylus tip that includes a tip antenna and an antenna printed on the outer surface of the housing.
The figure attached to Microsoft shows an example of two different capsules, each of which is inserted into the stylus. Each capsule has a shaft 108 that extends along a longitudinal axis of the interior of the capsule and has a stylus tip that protrudes from the capsule at one end. When using a stylus, a person holds the stylus in his or her hand, just like using a conventional pen or pencil, and pressing the stylus tip onto a surface such as a tablet screen or other surface. An optional pressure sensor in the stylus detects the pressure on the shaft.
