IDC's China X86 Server Market Tracking Report for the First Quarter of 2019 shows that China's X86 server market shipments in the first quarter of 2019 were 662,504 units, down 0.7% year-on-year; the market size was US$3.59 billion (approximately RMB24.09 billion). It increased by 13.5% year-on-year.
In the first quarter of 2018, China's X86 server market shipped 666,938 units, with a market size of US$3.158 billion (approximately RMB 19.895 billion).
In the first quarter of 2019, China's X86 server market was cold, and shipments experienced negative growth for the first time since 2010. However, as the average price continued to rise, sales still reached double-digit growth.
The reason for the negative growth in shipments is due to the fact that the first quarter itself is the off-season of procurement; on the other hand, the large-scale expansion of Internet customer business last year brought high demand, but from the fourth quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019, The Internet has seen significant contraction and delays compared to demand in the first half of last year.
Although the price of accessories has been declining, at the same time, the configuration of Internet customers and traditional industry customers continues to increase, and the number and capacity of hard disks and memory continue to increase.
The average price of X86 servers has continued to grow to a record high. Especially in the telecommunications, finance and education industries, the average price is significantly higher than the average unit price of the X86 server market.
In the first quarter of 2019, from the perspective of vendor market share, the top three vendors in terms of shipments were Inspur, Dell Yi Anxin and Huawei. The top three vendors in terms of sales were Inspur, Huawei and Xinhua III.
After the global X86 server market grew by more than double digits for six consecutive quarters, it slowed down in the first quarter of 2019. Shipment growth rate decreased by 5.3% year-on-year, and sales growth rate increased by 6.0% year-on-year.
In 2018, China's X86 server market shipments were 3,304,300 units, up 26.1% year-on-year; the market size was US$17.189 billion (approximately RMB151.195 billion), a year-on-year increase of 54.9%. IDC predicts that China's X86 server shipments will exceed 5.25 million units by 2023, and the overall market compound annual growth rate (CAGR) will be 9.7% in the next five years.
In the whole year of 2018, the growth of the market was mainly in the Internet, telecommunications, finance and service industries. The growth rate of shipments exceeded 20%, among which the growth of large-scale Internet and operators was particularly strong.
