According to the 5G unified plan of China Telecom, Sichuan Telecom Company of China launched a pilot 5G voice service in early March 2019, and took the lead in dialing 5G calls in the first laboratory in China on March 12 in Chengdu Experimental Network. In the early morning of March 29, China Telecom Sichuan Company took the lead in upgrading the existing wireless base station and core network equipment. Users can experience 5G high-speed Internet access and voice services without changing cards or numbers, laying the foundation for further promotion of 5G commercial.
This time, China Telecom Sichuan Company successfully dialed the first 5G voice and video calls again, marking that Sichuan has entered a new era of 5G.
As the main force of 5G construction, operators have issued their own construction and design plans. Earlier, China Telecom President and Chief Operating Officer Ke Ruiwen said that this year, China Telecom's investment budget in 5G construction was 9 billion yuan.
For 5G, China Telecom has made a lot of preparations, made a lot of capacity reserves and accumulated a lot of experience. This year, 9 billion yuan will be invested in scale-up experiments. The next step is to decide whether to further expand or promote commercial use, based on the test, licence issuance and maturity of the industrial chain.
In the direction of 5G networking, China Telecom in the "5G Technology White Paper" clearly proposed that SA scheme will be preferred for networking. At the same time, it avoids frequent network transformation, reduces network complexity and simplifies terminal implementation.
In this year, independent networking is a direction of 5G target network, because SA scheme can support new features of 5G network such as network slicing and edge technology based on target network.
In September 2018, China Telecom built its first 5G model network based on autonomously controlled open platform, and launched SA network validation in an all-round way. Interoperability between 4G and 5G core networks is also a key issue in SA solutions. On December 17, 2018, China Telecom took the lead in completing the verification of interoperability between 4G and 5G networks of the industry's first SA (Independent Networking) scheme.
In February this year, China Telecom took the lead in realizing 5G core network interoperability among different manufacturers, becoming the first operator in the world to achieve SA (independent networking) interoperability in accordance with international 3GPP standards. This will strongly promote 5G SA equipment to accelerate the formation of large-scale networking capabilities.
"5G is the key information infrastructure of the new generation, so China Telecom will actively and pragmatically accelerate it." Mr. Craven said.
