As a designer of the sci-fi card game Netrunner and the tactical game Riot Fighter Armored Soldier, Richard was invited by V Society to participate in the production of "Artifact" and took Richard's banner as a guarantee of quality and depth after the game went online.
But Richard was cut off by V, which indicates that the game, which was officially launched at the end of November last year, was abandoned by V in less than four months.
However, for V Society, the failure of Artifact is very important but not so important. What worries G Pang is that the basic Steam platform of V Society is now facing a huge crisis.
V Society returns to develop the first product dumb fire
In fact, it's not surprising that the Artifact project was abandoned, but I didn't expect it to come so soon. After all, the game has just been on line for less than four months, and it is rumored that it will officially launch a mobile version this year.
However, in February this year, DOTA2 was updated, in which players found tables and Dragon dealers that removed the Artifact element from the spring.
At that time, V has revealed the meaning of giving up the game. After all, the game had fewer than 1,000 people online at that time, sometimes even less than 100 people, and fewer than 100 people watched it live on Twitch.
In the first week of its launch in Hong Kong (Nov. 26-Dec. 2), the product won Steam's first sales list in a week. The number of real-time online users reached 50,000 at one time. Just as it was booming, Artifact quickly ushered in a cliff-like decline in the number of users and slid to the bottom.
Gamewower won't revert to the game about the problems it exposes. All we need to know is that players don't like the game.
The failure of "Artifact" was a huge blow to V. It was not only the first mobile product of V. Co., but also the first game of V. Co. in R&D after "DOTA2" several years later.
Since the launch of DOTA2 in 2009 and its launch in 2013, V has never been involved in R&D, focusing on the operation of Steam and the development of VR with HTC.
But the first shot of V club's return to the field of game research and development came a dumb gun, which had to be said to be a blow to V club.
Game Factory Escape Steam's Ice and Fire Dual Days
For V, if it is a research and development company like Tencent and Netease, then the failure of Artifact may seem insignificant. After all, it is only a failure product among many products.
However, for today's V society, "Artifact" failure actually hit V society not in the product failure itself, but in the meaning behind.
In 2017, a game developed by Blue Hole, a Korean developer, caught fire on Steam Platform. The product called "Jedi Survival" brought Steam a huge number of users, especially in China. With the popularity of this product, the number of users in China even exceeded 40 million, once surpassing the United States, and became the largest user source of Steam Platform.
Steam's future, Steam's potential, and Steam's energy reached a climax in a short time. Game studios are aiming to log on to Steam and face the world.
However, the good news was that "Fortress Night" was born later. When users began to search for the product in Steam, they found that the product was not registered with Steam. It was released by Epic Games itself.
Later, after "Fortress Night", a product called "Apex Legends" became popular again, and users began to log on to Steam to search for related products. As a result, the number of visits to a popular VR game called "Apex Construct" has increased by 40 times in recent days.
Players have opened their wallets to buy one after another, and their recent sales have exceeded the total sales of 2018 in a short period of time, but "Apex Construct" is not "Apex Legends". Players have made bad comments on Team pages.
Originally, "Apex Legends" did not log on to Steam, but to the publisher EA's own platform EA Origin platform.
This is a problem Steam is facing. More and more manufacturers, more and more products, are breaking away from Steam, and have also achieved good results, especially in some large 3A-level factories.
Later, Ubisoft announced that the PC version of Blockade 2 would be sold only on Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store, and no longer on Steam. The game Radiation 76, which belongs to the B Society, is also released by itself and not registered with Steam.
While Zelnick, CEO of TakeTwo, commented on the launch of the Epic Games Store, another retailer was not a distraction. Competition in the retail industry was a good thing, it just meant more distribution.
3A is gradually getting out of Steam, which is Steam's current predicament, as to why?
Sergey said it was difficult to say in one or two sentences, but he said three main questions:
(2) All the problems raised by these large issuers have not been solved by V Company.
Challenges to content mechanisms
For Steam, the escape of a 3A-class factory is a very difficult thing to stop for V company, but it has a huge impact, but this is not all. Small and medium-sized manufacturers also do not let Steam worry.
A few days ago, Steam launched a game called "Rape Day" on its platform, which generated huge public opinion on the day it went online. According to the description on the official website, "Rape Day" is a visual fiction game, the story is set in the end of a zombie outbreak, and the players play an anti-SH member. With the development of the story, players can harass, kill and even rape women verbally. (The content of the game behind is harmonious).
Scottish Parliament Minister Shaw Robinson supports these remarks and Bader's call for censorship in order to strengthen legislation on online and non-publishing content.
Although Steam quickly offline the product, such concerns persist because the Steam platform changed its content auditing mechanism last year.
At this time, V club still audits game content, and needs to define and implement subjective content rules, although the threshold has dropped a lot at this time.
That is, anybody can now post a game after Team for $100, submit tax and payment information, and wait 30 days.
Now, the British government is accumulating evidence against the laissez-faire game content mechanism of V Society.
Even without such a laissez-faire policy, we have to wonder whether Steam has the ability to conduct relevant reviews and judgments of content in the light of previous events involving a Taiwanese manufacturer.
Small and medium-sized manufacturers provide Steam with a large amount of content, but how much benefit these content brings and how much risk it brings. Whether Steam can face thousands of products well is a huge question mark.
V Society urgently needs phenomenal self-research products
Therefore, at this stage, we believe that "Artifact" as the first product of V Society to return to the R&D line, its importance is self-evident for V Society, because now Steam is shaky.
As we all know, Steam Platform was able to develop that year, mainly thanks to the support of V Society's own products, a little similar to the meaning of "Fortress Night" to Epic Games Store.
At that time, CS Series in China had a big fire in the north and south, in the Internet cafe, the share of CS even exceeded 50%. But CS quickly disappeared in China.
The main reason is that in the CS1.6 version, they were forced to log on to Steam platform. At that time, almost all Chinese players were playing piracy. But CS1.6 and Team's binding measures make it impossible for piracy to continue, and it's hard to imagine at what stage Chinese players want FQ to log on to Steam.
Thanks to this tough approach, Steam has been able to take off step by step. It is not necessary to say how important DOTA2 and CSGO are to Steam.
Steam can become one of the centers of global game distribution. To a great extent, it is the guarantee and foil of V company's own products. At the present time when the 3A factory is gradually away and small and medium-sized manufacturers are in trouble, if we want to ensure Steam's future, V company must return to the R&D line and bring phenomenal products to ensure Steam's status.
But V's first product was on the street quickly, which is not good news for Steam's future.
However, against the background of the failure of Artifact, the unexpected popularity of "Knife Tower Self-Walking Chess" made by Chinese team and DOTA2 editor seems to indicate that V Society had gradually fallen behind in terms of game vision and exploration of the future of the game.
But "Dao Ta Zi Qi" can't save V Society, just as "DOTA" can't save Blizzard's competition, they are just one or two rare highlights of an empire in the process of decline.
Steam's peak is so close, just 2017 is a smooth road, Steam's peak is so far away, now Steam is facing unprecedented difficulties.
