SK Telecom, Korea Telecom and LG Uplus, the three major mobile operators in South Korea, began accepting Galaxy S10 bookings on February 25 and then shipped to subscribers on March 4. Galaxy S10 will be officially launched on March 8.
Some market observers believe that sales of the Galaxy S10 have fallen short of expectations because Samsung plans to release the 5G version of the Galaxy S10 by the end of this month and the first foldable phone, Galaxy Fold, in May. "Some consumers may be waiting for a 5G version of Galaxy S10 or foldable mobile phone," said an executive in the Korean telecommunications industry.
Some observers also attribute the disappointing first-day sales of Galaxy S10 to the overall downturn in the smartphone industry. In order to attract more subscribers, Korean mobile operators are launching marketing campaigns to allow users to use the 4G version of Galaxy S10 in exchange for the future 5G version of Galaxy S10.
