5G standard: all standards are released or delayed until June 2020

The 5G standard of the International Telecommunications Standards Organization 3GPP is a big family concept. It is divided into two 5G schemes, non-independent networking (NSA) and independent networking (SA). The version evolves from R14, R15 to R16 and R17. The R17 version will put all the standards involved in the 5G three scenes.

In December 2017, the R15 version of the non-independent networking NSA standard was frozen. Non-independent networking is a transitional solution. The main goal is to improve the bandwidth of the hotspot area. There is no independent signaling plane, and it depends on the 4G base station and the core network. Therefore, the standard is relatively simple. In June 2018, the SA independent networking scheme standard was frozen. SA can realize all the new features of 5G, network slicing, edge computing, etc., which is conducive to the full capabilities of 5G. After the two major standards are frozen, this also means that 5G industrialization has entered a comprehensive sprint phase.

3GPP originally planned to release the entire R15 standard by the end of 2018, but the 3GPP team made an important decision - the version of the R15 Late Drop, which was originally scheduled to be frozen in December 2018, will be postponed until March 2019. This also means that the introduction of the R15 standard will be delayed for several months. However, the standards of NSA and SA are not affected and do not affect the deployment of 5G.

However, the industry also believes that with the delay of 5G R15 completion time, the completion time of 5G R16 will be delayed accordingly. The completion time of the R16 standard will also be postponed from December 2019 to March 2020, which means that all 5G standards will be postponed until June 2020.

5G technical test: the third phase of the test is basically completed
