Recently, media and user feedback said that the Windows Update update service has a bug, which caused the service to fail. Microsoft officially acknowledged this, and through social media, follow-up feedback from users on the Reddit community, Microsoft has quietly fixed this problem. Earlier this week, due to poor DNS configuration issues, there were problems with Windows Update services across the globe.
Some ISPs, including Comcast and BT Broadband, cannot connect to Microsoft's update server using DNS settings. Although some users said that switching to Google's public DNS could resolve this issue and restore Windows Update, this temporary solution is not for all users, indicating that the issue may be related to Microsoft's own server.
Many users indicate that Windows Update outages may be caused by Windows Defender updates, but not all of them. Because other applications seem to be affected as well, including the Microsoft Store and some pre-installed Windows 10 applications.
