The above data connection was completed using China Mobile's 2.6GHz 5G test frequency band and was carried out in the experimental network of China Mobile's southern base. ZTE's 5G new air pre-commercial base station products and smart phone-sized test terminals were adopted. The smartphone-sized test terminal is powered by Qualcomm Technologies' 5G modem and an antenna module with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna unit. This demonstration fully demonstrates that the Chinese ecosystem is ready for the 5G commercial in 2019 by utilizing the world's first commercial 5G mobile platform, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and the 5G modem Snapdragon X50 series.
Compared to previous generation cellular technology, the 5G new air interface design can support more frequency bands, including low frequency, intermediate frequency, high frequency and even millimeter wave frequency band, to provide excellent and wide range of high performance mobile connections. At present, many countries and regions including China have launched 5G deployment based on the 6GHz and/or millimeter wave bands. This time, the complete end-to-end pre-commercial system equipment, including the 5G core network, AAU (wireless base station) and prototype mobile test terminal, is completed and the first publicly demonstrated data connection based on the independent networking mode in the Chinese 5G test environment.
