● Data connection is based on 2.6G frequency band and independent networking mode

● The success of data connectivity is another important milestone for large-scale commercial deployment of 5G new air interface

● The data connection was successfully implemented on December 1, 2018, and was demonstrated at the China Mobile Global Partner Conference on December 6-8, 2018.

The above data connection was completed using China Mobile's 2.6GHz 5G test frequency band and was carried out in the experimental network of China Mobile's southern base. ZTE's 5G new air pre-commercial base station products and smart phone-sized test terminals were adopted. The smartphone-sized test terminal is powered by Qualcomm Technologies' 5G modem and an antenna module with integrated RF transceiver, RF front-end and antenna unit. This demonstration fully demonstrates that the Chinese ecosystem is ready for the 5G commercial in 2019 by utilizing the world's first commercial 5G mobile platform, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and the 5G modem Snapdragon X50 series.

Compared to previous generation cellular technology, the 5G new air interface design can support more frequency bands, including low frequency, intermediate frequency, high frequency and even millimeter wave frequency band, to provide excellent and wide range of high performance mobile connections. At present, many countries and regions including China have launched 5G deployment based on the 6GHz and/or millimeter wave bands. This time, the complete end-to-end pre-commercial system equipment, including the 5G core network, AAU (wireless base station) and prototype mobile test terminal, is completed and the first publicly demonstrated data connection based on the independent networking mode in the Chinese 5G test environment. It further demonstrates the ability and determination of the China Mobile ecosystem, including mobile operators, infrastructure providers and chip solution providers, to accelerate the acceleration of 5G commercial use. Whether it is below 6 GHz or in the millimeter wave band, 5G brings exponential growth to the complexity of terminal design, and Qualcomm Technologies is working closely with Chinese OEMs to meet this challenge, thereby jointly accelerating 5G commercial landing.

Dr. Ma Dejia, Senior Vice President and General Manager of 4G/5G Business at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., said: “The important milestone for this completion is another example of our continued cooperation with China's extensive ecosystem to promote 5G commercial use in China. A huge success in the process. Qualcomm Technologies has been committed to supporting the success of China's wireless industry. We look forward to continuing to work with leading companies such as China Mobile and ZTE to promote commercial deployment of 5G networks and mobile terminals next year, bringing breakthrough 5G experiences to Chinese consumers. . "

ZTE Wang Xiyu, CTO of ZTE Corporation, said: "ZTE is committed to becoming a leading supplier of 5G commercial equipment and solutions. In the process of 5G technology verification and commercialization, we have been actively working with industry partners to carry out a large number of key technology verification, solution verification and networking verification. This time, China Mobile, ZTE and Qualcomm Technologies jointly completed the world's first 5G data connection conforming to the 3GPP independent networking specification (SA), which reflects our efforts and phased lead in promoting 5G industrialization, and commercialization of 5G. The progress of the process has taken another step. "
