According to MacRumors, a well-known Apple analyst, Guo Mingpi, in a new report, said that as technology companies seek other ways to grow as smartphone sales decline, Apple's popular IrPods wireless headphones will continue to improve, triggering a round of intense headphone innovation and competition in 2019.
Guo predicts that AirPods is the most successful Apple product at present, and will be rapidly popularized after upgrading next year. Many brands will follow Apple and launch their own competitive products. At the same time, Guo also predicted how headphone devices will develop in the context of the Apple ecosystem in the next few years.
"We believe that AirPods is not just Apple's headphones, it will become more and more important in Apple's ecosystem for the following reasons," the report said. (1) Increase the cost of switching users from iOS ecosystem to Android system. (2) AirPods is an important device for voice assistant/AI service, because it can easily enable voice assistant. (3) The ear is an ideal perception area for detecting various health data. In the future, it may be combined with Apple Watch to provide better health management.
As smartphone shipments slow, a growing number of brands are focusing on wireless headphones as a way to achieve growth in the short term, with a view to achieving long-term strategic improvements in headphones, according to Guo. Google and Amazon are expected to be Apple's main competitors in emerging markets, thanks to the Android operating system, which has a sophisticated Alexa voice assistant. AirPods-like products made by the two companies are expected to launch in the second half of next year.
Guo Mingpi wrote in his report: "We believe that the success of AirPods has attracted the attention of Google and Amazon, which will launch products similar to AirPods in the second quarter of 2019. The total shipments of the two brands are likely to reach 10 million to 20 million units in 2019.
