LG Display is working with Lenovo to launch a new flat panel with a 13-inch foldable display, according to South Korean technology media ETNews at noon on October 17, Beijing time. LG Display will provide a folding OLED screen for the tablet, while Lenovo is responsible for the production of the device.

LG Display has signed a confidentiality agreement with Lenovo and has officially launched the project, the newspaper quoted industry sources as saying. According to sources, the company plans to provide foldable display to Lenovo in the second half of next year.

Android Authority, the US technology media, points out that this is the first foldable screen device to be developed so far.

It has been reported that Samsung and Huawei have both been working on folding phones that can be used as small tablets when launched. However, the screen size of these devices is expected to be only 7 or 8 inches

It is rumored that Microsoft is also interested in developing collapsible Surface devices. But the leaked images show that the product still has two separate screens, not a whole foldable screen. And whether the project will be implemented is also a problem.

Therefore, the 13 inch folding screen is entirely another attempt. Although folded 13-inch screens may be more convenient to carry than traditional 13-inch screens, they are still less convenient than mobile phones, so the product is undoubtedly a flat-panel category.

Nevertheless, ETNews says LG Display sees this field as the future of a collapsible screen. Lenovo is also reportedly interested in using this innovative product to compete for 13-inch tablet revenue from Dell and LG electronics.
