Facebook on Tuesday sued BlackBerry for infringement of its patent rights, escalating the patent war between the two sides, Bloomberg reported in Beijing on September 5. Facebook filed 118 pages of lawsuit in San Francisco Federal Court on Tuesday, accusing BlackBerry of stealing its voice messaging technology. Facebook accused BlackBerry of infringing its 6 patent, demanding that BlackBerry pay the unspecified amount of damages.
BlackBerry has yet to comment.
In addition to voice messaging patents, Facebook argues that BlackBerry infringed on its patented technology to improve the graphics and audio offerings on mobile devices, as well as another patent to bring GPS data tracking and analysis together.
In March, BlackBerry sued Facebook in a federal court in Los Angeles, accusing it of infringing its mobile messaging patent. BlackBerry said it used BlackBerry technology without authorization in its own instant messaging service, Facebook Messenger, and Whats App Messenger and Instagram.
