Tencent Technology News, according to foreign media reports, a new survey by venture capital firm Loup Ventures shows that 48% of iPhone users plan to upgrade next year. In comparison, this figure was 25% in June 2017.
iPhone user upgrade intention survey over the years
The survey's authors, Gene Munster and Will Thompson, point out that the findings suggest that the iPhone's future needs will be large. This may increase the iPhone sales by 3% in 2019. In contrast, Wall Street analysts expect iPhone sales in 2019 to be flat this year.
In addition, 42% of those who claimed to be ready to upgrade said they would buy the 2018 iPhone and 18% said they would choose iPhone X. 19% of Android phone users said they plan to switch to the iPhone next year.
“The iPhone is entering a period of steady growth, and its sales growth rate will be 0-5% in the next few years. This is mainly because its existing 805 million activated iPhones have a 90% retention rate. “The 3.5-year upgrade cycle and 90% retention mean that Apple sells 207 million iPhones a year, slightly below Wall Street’s projected 219 million,” the authors of the report wrote. ”
Loup Ventures has been thinking this year that services will become an increasingly important part of Apple's future business. However, Munster is also very optimistic about the sales of the iPhone.
The survey was conducted prior to the launch of Apple's 2018 iPhone and interviewed 530 iPhone users.
Apple is expected to launch three new iPhones in the second week of September. It is speculated that Apple may introduce two iPhones with 6.5-inch and 5.8-inch OLED screens and an iPhone with a 6.1-inch LCD screen. All three phones have a similar design to the iPhone X.
