On Wednesday, Microsoft announced that it has signed an acquisition agreement with Bonsai. Bonsai is a start-up company based in Berkeley, California, and has been invested by Microsoft Venture Capital. Bonsai defined the company as "the world's first Deep Reinforcement Learning platform for the enterprise".
According to the Bonsai official website, the company integrated machine learning and development tools from Microsoft, Uber, Google, and Apple to build its software and services to develop industrial-grade artificial intelligence applications.
Microsoft official wrote in a blog post about this acquisition transaction that Bonsai used machine learning methods to "draw the low-level principles of machine learning" to train automated systems to accomplish certain tasks. The training process is conducted in a simulated environment.
Microsoft plans to combine Bonsai with the company’s Azure cloud service with GPUs and Brainware. In a blog post, Microsoft mentioned that the model built with Brainware will be deployed on the Azure IoT system and “supplied Microsoft with an end-to-end solution for developing, operating, and improving the 'brain' in automated systems.” (Xiaobao)
